In 2011, 45 incandescent lamps, which operated at 200-250 watts, were replaced by 65 watt self-ballasted spiral lamps. This small
change is estimated to reduce electrical consumption by 34,000 kilowatt hours per year, and prospectively save UWL $2,550 per year.
Also in 2011, the removal and recycling of 32 watt 4-foot linear fluorescent lamps was put into action at Cartwright Center. It is
estimated to reduce electrical consumption by 10,400 kilowatt hours per year, and save UWL $775 per year.
